propaganda campaign promoting national unity

context: The CPC has been fostering a sense of community in the Zhonghua (Chinese) nation, nurturing cultural symbols and narratives to support nation-building. This initiative counteracts Western attempts to ‘dismantle’ Chinese culture, combating separatism and reinforcing cultural security. Relevant state projects include building national cultural parks and drafting new textbooks focusing on ethnic unity and integration.

The ‘forging a united community, embracing the Zhonghua (Chinese) family’ propaganda campaign was launched on 24 June in Inner Mongolia, reports People’s Daily. The event was hosted jointly by the Central Publicity Department, the Central United Front Department and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission.

Major news outlets and localities sent representatives to the ceremony, amounting to around 120 people.

The campaign is guided by the motif of ‘forging a strong sense of community for the Zhonghua nation’, including

  • mobilising media outlets to conduct interviews and research in Inner Mongolia, Guangxi, Tibet, Ningxia and Xinjiang
  • reporting on
    • regional and departmental experiences in realising Xi Jinping’s 习近平 major thinking on strengthening and improving ethnic work
    • model examples and specific policies devised to forge a common spiritual homeland for the Zhonghua nation
  • explaining the theoretical, historical and practical principles for nation-building
  • promoting
    • the Party’s historical achievements in the new era of ethnic work
    • the Zhonghua nation’s will to cultivate a community of shared future for humankind with the rest of the world

Following the opening ceremony, media outlets will

  • set up ‘forging a united community, embracing the Zhonghua family’ columns in
    • major pages and eye-catching areas
    • golden times of broadcasting
    • new media platforms
  • guide ethnic groups to regard each other as part of a community that
    • shares weal and woe
    • experiences the same honours and disgraces
    • live and die together
    • shoulders the same destiny
  • promote all ethnic groups to develop a high level of identification to
    • the great motherland
    • the Zhonghua nation
    • the Zhonghua culture
    • the CPC
