Xi Jinping 习近平 visited joint venture BASF Shanshan Battery Materials to inspect their progress on developing new productive forces and expanding high-level opening up. 

Established in 2021, BASF Shanshan Battery Materials Co Ltd is a joint venture between the leading German chemical company BASF and the Chinese company Shanshan Technology. The battery company has businesses covering raw materials, positive material precursors, positive active materials and recycling of waste batteries.

With a sound R&D system, a strong patent matrix and a low-carbon and sustainable supply chain, the company is committed to creating a new role in the chemistry of cathode materials and pursuing a sustainable future, note state media.

According to Battery China, Shanshan Technology's negative material shipments reached 200,000 tonnes in 2022, and nearly 300,000 tonnes in 2023. During the adjustment period of the lithium negative material industry, the company's negative material shipments continued to grow rapidly y-o-y.

As the first domestic high-tech enterprise to industrialise negative electrode materials, Shanshan Technology is a pioneer in the field that has accumulated more than 20 years of experience in the R&D and large-scale production of lithium battery materials.
