MoA kicks off five sustainable agriculture campaigns

Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) will launch a green agriculture campaign across five key areas, said MoA spokesperson Ye Zhenqin 叶贞琴 at a press conference covered by Xinhua on 9 May 2017. Focusing on nationally designated agriculture parks and areas, the five campaigns include a

  • livestock and poultry waste resource utilisation campaign

    • to solve livestock waste management through sustainable use by 2020
    • a special fund and awards for innovation
    • focused on large-scale farms
  • fruit, vegetable, and tea chemical fertiliser organic transition campaign
    • to cut total chemical fertiliser use in horticulture and tea by at least 20 percent by 2020
    • cut chemical fertiliser use by 50 percent in key production areas (parks and zones)
    • C¥600 million allocated
  • Northeast China crop straw management campaign
    • to utilise 80 percent of crop waste by 2020
    • build new capacity to utilise 27 million tonnes of crop stalks annually
    • pilot work targeting 60 corn producing counties
  • agricultural plastic film recycling campaign
    • goal is 80 percent recovery rate by 2020
    • pilot work in 100 counties in Gansu, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia
    • target crops are corn, cotton, potato
  • Yangtze river aquatic biodiversity conservation campaign
    • goal is to control or reverse biodiversity loss by 2020
    • overfishing is a key focus
