Beijing cluster
京津冀 Jīngjīnjì

One of five major urban clusters to be developed under a national plan to coordinate regional clusters. Jīng 京 for Beijing, Jīn 津 for Tianjin, and Jì 冀, a Han dynasty name for southern Hebei. The vision is to narrow Beijing’s activities to a Washington-like showcase of politics, culture, science and technology innovation, and international exchange. Tianjin will concentrate industrial innovation and high-end manufacturing; and parks co-located with recycling and re-use centres across Hebei. Vast population and industry relocations are required. Another key impetus is cross-regional environmental management. The region is slated to become as prosperous as the Yangtze and Pearl River deltas, yet clean, wooded and watered with desertification checked.
