high-end equipment boost focusing on aero engines and gas turbines

Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) will support aero engine and gas turbine development through major sci-tech projects in 2016-20, said Miao Wei 苗圩 MIIT minister at the National Industry and Information Innovation Conference. Citing authoritative sources, Economic Information Daily reports

  • aero engine projects will focus on
    • turbofans
    • turbojet engines
    • turbo shafts, turbo propels and piston engines
  • gas turbine projects will aim to realise independent design and production of
    • F-level 300 mw engines by 2020
    • H-level 400 mw engines by 2030

Domestic high-end equipment will grow from C¥6 tn, or 15 percent of equipment sales income, in 2015 to 25 percent by 2020, argues State Manufacturing Strong Nation Construction Strategy Advisory Commission, noting that the industry generates substantial economic growth.

MIIT, NDRC and other authoritative sources expect

  • the 'strategic emerging industries 13th 5-year plan' by end 2016, focusing on rail transport, ocean ship construction and aviation equipment, and providing a blueprint for high-end equipment development
  • a new version of Made in China 2025 key area technology road map by 2017, from the State Manufacturing Strong Nation Construction Strategy Advisory Commission

Following State Council guidelines, departments are designing high-end equipment industrial belts in

  • Bohai rim: Beijing, Tianjin and Shandong
  • Yangtze area: Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang
  • Pearl River delta: Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Shenzhen
  • central China: Hunan (Changsha) and Hubei (Wuhan)
  • west China: Shanxi (Xian), Sichuan (Chengdu) and Chongqing

The plans will propose building various industry clusters, such as nuclear energy, new energy vehicles and ocean ship construction, on the basis of established industries such as aviation, shipbuilding and car making, says the paper.
